We have the most philanthropies of any other NPC group. Philanthropically Kappa Delta seeks out the best for our community.  Kappa Delta is proud to say that of all the money raised 20% goes to our national philanthropies and the other 80% stays here in Troy, Alabama.

Locally we work hand in hand with the local Girl Scouts of the USA. This year we helped put together a field day program with some of the troops. Here the girls joined in relay races and arts and crafts. We also help them sell their biggest fundraiser, the famous Girl Scout cookies when we set up a table in our very own Trojan Center.  Next, we hosted an Etiquette Dinner with the troops to help them earn a badge to wear proudly on their sash. Then, in December we walked and caroled in Troy’s Christmas Parade.  We hope the girls of Troy are benefiting from interaction with positive Kappa Delta role models as they work to earn the Kappa Delta /Girl Scout Patch.

We also volunteer at Pike Manor Nursing home where every other Tuesday we go and play Banana Bingo. We also hosted a Halloween Party with the brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon where we played music and brought homemade goodies. They love it when we come visit.  This proves to be both a fun and rewarding experience.

Recently, Kappa Delta has participated in restoring an old church into the Pike County Child Advocacy Center.  Sisters came together to help paint and provided funding for the much needed furnishings.  We now have a room dedicated specifically to Kappa Delta. We feel this helps contribute to our national philanthropy, Prevent Child Abuse America, here in our own community.  This past semester, we went back to paint cheerful murals on the walls and benches of the center.  The smiling teddy bears, which represent Kappa Deltas mascots, make the children forget about their troubles and have a new start in their lives.

In the fall, Kappa Deltas also volunteer at the annual Troy Elementary Fall Festival.  Here we help the faculty and staff set up and manage the different games and events.  Here again we enjoy meeting and working with the people and families of our community.

In March, we hold our biggest philanthropic event of the year, the
Shamrock Event.  It is known throughout campus and gets everyone including students and faculty involved. It’s more commonly called “Rockin on the Quad”.  Here we set up tents and rocking chairs in the middle of the Quad and rock for the Prevent Child Abuse America cause.  We also have a Mr. Shamrock contest where every fraternity has a nomination jar and we collect money for each nominee.  As the week progresses the jar with the most money raised is crowned Mr. Shamrock.  But wait...that’s not all the Shamrock Project involves.  After a hard day of rocking we host a 3-on-3-basketball tournament.  Tons of teams sign-up and battle it out for trophies and the bragging right to be the Shamrock Tournament winners.  With all of our sisters out there cheering our guys on it can get pretty exciting.  Every year we have more and more teams sign up which in conclusion raises thousands of dollars for Prevent Child Abuse of America.  We believe philanthropy should do more than raise money.  In the Shamrock Project we aim to spread the awareness, get everyone involved, and have fun at the same time!

Kappa Delta has also recently participated in this year’s Troy Fest!  We set up a tent to raise money for our Relay For Life Team.  Several sisters dressed the part in our “Pictures with Princesses”. Here the children of Pike County could have their picture taken with famous princesses such as Cinderella, Snow White, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, Tinker Bell, and even Jasmine.  After a quick picture they could sit down and decorate their very own princess picture frame.  In minutes, their picture was printed and ready to go!  Also, just around the corner from the princess tent, other Kappa Delta sisters gathered at the Child Advocacy Tent to help paint faces and sell Child Abuse Awareness pins.  This day was full of fun and gratifying experiences.
